About the Artist:
Jennifer Montenegro is a Southern California-based artist, educator, and mentor whose work explores the profound connection between mindfulness and creativity through the practice of painting. Her art delves into the intricate relationships between space, color, material, and scale, often resulting in installations that invite viewers into an immersive experience. In her painting practice, Jennifer is deeply influenced by color theory, studying how colors affect the psyche and harnessing color fields to evoke a sense of calm and introspection. Her work explores silence in abstract art, using patterns, textures, and mark-making as tools for meditation and self-discovery.
Jennifer’s artistic journey is rooted in her sensitivity to emotions, a trait she has embraced since childhood and now channels into creating art that is honest, vulnerable, and present. She sees practice as central to her creative process, engaging in daily reflections and sketchbook studies that continually deepen her connection to her work.
Jennifer holds a degree in Art History from California State University, San Bernardino, and earned her MFA in Studio Art & Design in 2016. Her work has been exhibited at venues including the Diana Berger Art Gallery, Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art, Riverside Art Museum, and CB1 Gallery. Her pieces have also been featured in Dotphotozine, including a review by Kathy Stewart in 2015 and a feature by Thomas McGovern in 2014, as well as in The Sand Canyon Review in 2013.
